Tori Degen
At age 14 I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. In 2000, I was lucky enough to have my wish granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation®. Because I was an avid soccer player, I wished to meet Mia Hamm and the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team. I spent a day with the team at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in San Diego and was given a personalized team jersey, autographed soccer balls, game tickets to every game the team was playing in a tournament, and the experience of a lifetime!
Two years after my wish was granted I was diagnosed with uterine cancer. I have now been cancer free for 5 years! After my second diagnosis, I realized I wanted to become even more involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation® beyond just a wish ambassador. I am now 20- years-old and am majoring in public relations and communications at Cal State Fullerton. I am currently a public relations and volunteer services intern for the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Orange County and the Inland Empire in hopes of working there permanently some day.
