Joey, “I wish to have the perfect day with my family … just like Christmas”
Bringing a day of happiness to his family was Joey’s extraordinary wish. He feels that his fight against Hodgkin’s lymphoma has put his close-knit family through a lot. “My family is the most important thing to me. I just want them to be happy,” he expressed. To convey his sincerest appreciation and love for his family, he wished to have the most perfect day with his family.
Amidst the holiday celebrations, Joey’s wish came true. Held in a beautifully decorated room, compliments of Ayres Hotels of Southern California, gifts for each family member, carefully and thoughtfully chosen by Joey, were displayed under a Christmas tree. Before giving his family the gifts, he handed them personal cards that reflected his sentiments. Silence filled the room as some family members became overwhelmed with emotion while they read their personalized message.
“He’s always thinking of others rather than himself,” his mother explained as her eyes filled with tears. “He’s like the glue that holds our family together.”
There was just one gift missing under the Christmas tree. This is because the U.S. Armed Forces and Ken of Integrity PR were coordinating a special delivery. Going beyond the call of duty, they located Joey’s brother-in-law in Afghanistan, delivered his package, and arranged a satellite phone and Skype video call for Joey.
As the party ended, everyone received an engraved Make-A-Wish ornament from Things Remembered to commemorate this special day. We hope that the memory of this wish brings joy to Joey and his family for years to come. Expressing his gratitude, Joey stated, “It was the best Christmas ever and the most perfect Christmas I’ve ever had!”
