Dhanush, Orange, CA "I Wish to Meet the Doctor Who Saved My Life"
Dhanush, an extremely intelligent and inspirational ten year old with severe chronic neuropenia, impressed us all with his generous and selfless wish. When told he could have any wish, Dhanush said he wanted to meet his doctor from Ohio and give her a digital camera because she saved his life when he was two years old. It is standard practice that a wish child’s doctor approves of the child’s wish before it is granted. Dhanush’s doctor has approved many wishes for children, but upon receipt of his wish request, she broke into tears. She could not control her emotions because she learned she was a part of Dhanush’s wish!
Dhanush went to Toledo, Ohio where his family was greeted by the media at their hotel. News cameras captured Dhanush’s reunion with his life-saving doctor and watched him present her with a brand new digital camera. Dhanush then presented her with a "Best Doctor Oscar Award." After the presentation, Dhanush and his family went to enjoy dinner with his doctor and her family. He ended his memorable reunion by giving the "Let’s play ball" announcement at a Toledo Mud Hens baseball game with his proud doctor watching. When it was time for Dhanush to go home, Dhanush’s doctor was so touched by his kindness that she invited him to come back and visit again. Dhanush returned home with his family but he and his doctor promised that by next year, they would go to Disneyland together and have another day of fun. Dhanush not only had a remarkable wish day but gained a lifelong friend in the doctor who saved his life.
